Listing of the Day

Location: London

Price: £6.95 million (US$8.74 million)

Top British interior designer Louise Bradley has called this London terraced house in the city’s Chelsea neighborhood home for the past three years.

Fittingly, she completely transformed the property on Milner Street in her signature style with high-quality materials and finishes and lots of natural, biophilic elements.

“Although it’s in a conservation area, the house wasn’t listed [as a protected historic place], so I was able to do whatever I wanted to it,” Bradley said.

Leaving only the historic white stucco and brick facade of the property intact, Bradley’s team created a flowing, open floor plan. She extended the ceiling heights and added a fully glazed “garden room,” as well as a lightwell in the main living space complete with a tree.

The design has a classic contemporary feel, with a neutral palette, bespoke lighting and timber beams creating a warm atmosphere throughout. An abundance of plants, natural light from the south-facing windows, and patio access bring the outdoors in, a feeling multiplied by the home’s especially verdant views.

“I bought the house because of its situation. It has a lovely vista looking down on all the gardens of the surrounding streets,” Bradley said.

Listing agent Russell Williamson said the result of her redesign is a “seamless fusion of style and functionality.”

Stats

The 2,196-square-foot home has three bedrooms and three full bathrooms, spread over five floors, including a lower ground floor.

Amenities

The fully equipped smart home benefits from Crestron automation and Lutron lighting, and boasts both underfloor heating and air conditioning, a feature that isn’t a given in London properties.

A lush, glass-enclosed garden room, which Bradley considers a multipurpose space, opens out through bifold doors onto a private outdoor terrace. The bespoke chef’s kitchen benefits from all Gaggenau appliances, and a room that currently functions as an exercise room could also be used as a home office.

Neighborhood Notes

The home is located within a 15-minute walk of Hyde Park, with its 350 acres of green space. An especially quiet and wide residential road in Chelsea, Milner Street affords its properties plenty of natural light and enhanced views of the surrounding streetscape.

Sandwiched between Kensington and Belgravia, the location also benefits from the best that London has to offer in terms of culture, fine dining and boutique shopping.

“I love the neighborhood,” Bradley said. “It’s just so accessible. You’re a five-minute walk from King’s Road and all the bustle, and another five minutes from Knightsbridge and Harrods and all the lovely restaurants in that area.”

Sloane Square and Pavilion Road are similarly accessible, while multiple tube stations and Victoria Train Station connect the area to wider London and beyond.
