Just before the summer season starts, Gurney’s Montauk Seawater Spa has a new look and new offerings following a $20 million dollar renovation. The 30,000 square foot space now offers a full bathhouse experience which includes sauna and steam rooms, thermae baths and new treatment rooms which allow you to enjoy the ocean view during your spa session. The Seawater Spa, which is notably the only ocean-fed seawater pool in North America, gives guests the opportunity to enjoy wellness, fitness and beauty while on vacation no matter what the season.

New Look Inspired by the Sea

The new areas are oases of calm with muted natural tones reminiscent of the property’s ocean location. Architect Ignacio Alonso of Alonso Designs, who also worked on Aire Ancient Baths, was the mastermind behind the renovation. The glass-enclosed dry sauna is spacious and offers you views of the baths you’re likely to cool off in after breaking a sweat — there are two options at chilly 50 and 57 Fahrenheit. After that, head into one of the hot pools to warm up again before heading into the eucalyptus steam room or enjoying a spa appointment. With sustainability in mind, the spa features environmentally friendly and energy-efficient mechanical and water treatment systems. The bathhouse is accessible to guests when booked together with a 90-minute treatment. The renovation also reveals a new space, The Spa Deck, which can be booked for events and offers panoramic views of the ocean.

Spa Treatments

The Seawater Spa offers an array of body and face treatments, boasting some of the most popular beauty brands today. The spa is an outpost for Dr. Dennis Gross known for his hyper-effective products and facials, and beauty brands like Osea and One Ocean Beauty which harness the powerful ingredients of the ocean in their products. Guests in town for an event (or one that just love a beautifying treatment) can book facials such as the Dr. Dennis Gross High Performance or Perfect Complexion to look their best. There are also scrubs and wraps available to refine skin on your body, ideal before putting on a skin-baring summer outfit.

Massage fans can select from 30- or 60-minute slots of Swedish, reflexology, or a head, neck and shoulder massage. There are both indoor and outdoor treatment rooms that can be booked, with the outdoor rooms featuring baths and views of the ocean to stay a little longer before or after your treatment.

For a quick and effective fix there are also hydrafacials available, not just for the face but also the body and scalp to promote hair health. Guests who love the results from their treatment can also purchase the products in the spa’s well-appointed retail section.

Membership

New this year, there’s also an option for private memberships for the spa which is particularly appealing to local residents who regularly want to indulge in wellness offerings. The membership includes access to the gym and wellness spaces, as well as quarterly treatments and one-on-one fitness coaching. The spa also offers an array of wellness classes from yoga to weight training, and members have dedicated permanent lockers to keep your gear there. Memberships for the spa start at $17,500 per year.

The spa is very popular so it’s recommended to book all of your treatments in advance. While the spa is great on any day, if you wake up and the weather is suboptimal, a few treatments and a bathhouse session will really lift your spirits.
