For a pair of active and adventurous married retirees, a condominium overlooking Bayshore Boulevard and the blue bay is a dream realized. It’s what Jen Kravchuk’s clients presented to her in 2022. The 2160-square-foot 2-bedroom 3-bathroom skyward home was a blank canvas for their vision — bold, elevated, Florida design that would delight guests with color, texture and unexpected objects d’art.

The pair worked with Kravchuk to develop a design concept they termed Havana Modern, an ode to the area’s historic Cuban origins. Inside, Cuba’s rich history is on display, including subtle influences by the Taíno Indians, European, African and Chinese inhabitants of the island nation. Cuba’s love of early 20th century modernism throughout.

“A lot of clients these days desire clean simple spaces with gray and white tones, plus accents of blues,” Kravchuk says. “This unit is far from that, it stands out because it is so unique. I love that these clients wanted color.”

The home is a welcome departure from the tendency toward muted neutrals and coastal palates. The color scheme makes use of teal, pinkish-red tomato, black, white and yellow. Whimsical touches play on cubism, art nouveau and art deco themes. Bold wallpapers, gold accents, geometric, stripes, palm leaves, florals, and textures abound. Step inside and you’ll be craving a Cohiba in no time.

Fun, floral wall coverings from Harlequin are bold additions to the entry foyer and match the draperies in the living room. The blue fringe ottomans were custom-made by Massoud and the gold mirror was sourced from Arteriors.
The dining room pops with white and gold wallpaper from Scion. The black and white chairs from D.R. Kincaid sit below the gold palm leaf chandelier from Currey and Company.
For the kitchen, Kravchuk illuminated the space with gold pendant lighting from Currey and Company. The marble and brass backsplash help compliment the white and gold barstools from Sunpan.
The stylish pair of interlocking, curved coffee tables were sourced from Arteriors.
The focal point in the bedroom is the bed from Bernhardt featuring a Channel back with brass nailhead detail.
The den takes inspiration from nature with a leaf accent table and standing lamp from Arteriors. The ottomans were custom-made by Massoud and so were the pillows, which are a mixture of Casamance and Harlequin.
The balcony, which overlooks the bay, features patio chairs from Kannoa and a horse table and coffee table from Four Hands.
