Luckily, there are experts that can do all that hard work for you, so you can put your feet up on your sofa, without worrying if it matches the wallpaper.

Express.co.uk spoke to Alysha Alli, from the interior design team at Redrow about the simple changes that can be made in homes.

She spoke about the struggles that come with open-plan living, despite the design’s modern look, it’s not always functional.

“While this layout provides ample space, perfect for families, post-pandemic living has meant this communal space is too often being shared for multiple reasons simultaneously,” she said.

Lighting is one of the biggest parts of a home which doesn’t get the attention it needs for this reason.

She said: “Often overlooked is lighting, which provides the greatest asset in helping to create a zoning effect to separate areas.

“This can be done through different shades of light that illuminate or shadow various areas.

“This cost-effective technique will cater to each member of the family and their needs while creating a relaxing and inviting ambience for all to enjoy.”

The interiors whizz also revealed why following trends may not always be the best thing for your space, especially when it comes to colour.

“With its neutral tones, grey has long been a good starting point for homeowners unsure what direction to take their interior.

“Although shades of grey remain a safe foundation, the colour’s cooler nature can instantly limit an interior’s versatility,” she explained.

Once your room is grey, incorporating other colours can feel clumsy, but the grey still needs brightening up, which is a bit of an interior design conundrum.

“With homeowners spending more time in their homes than ever before, there’s a growing trend away from cooler colours in favour of warmer, cosier colours that are more welcoming to create a snug retreat.

“Opting for a bold or vibrant colour, particularly in a home office, can introduce an element of fun into the space and provide a visual reminder of happiness that is both energising and engaging when compared with an uninspiring shade of grey,” she added.

Instead, opt for “earthy tones, such as sage greens and warm caramel,” which are more adaptable and will allow your style to evolve with the scheme.
