Inspired by Webb & Brown-Neaves’ The Moda home design, this custom build exudes European charm with an emphasis on modern, minimalist design.
With its sleek finishes and open-plan layout, this home offers the family endless space to entertain and relax.
The four-bedroom, three-bathroom Marmion abode was inspired by refined modernist architecture within a coastal environment, according to Webb & Brown-Neaves Innovation and New Product Designer Joseph Calasara.
“The minimalist approach combined with distinct breeze block features provides the hint and character of modernist design,” Mr Calasara said. “The modern minimalist design was achieved with clean lines, simple materials and an uncomplicated colour palette combined with a modernist form architecture.
“The use of breeze blocks and marbellino plaster adds personality and character to the home, which stands out against the simple colour palette.
“The main entry is located to the side of the house with a double void over the front door.
“Once inside, you are welcomed by a feature raised-floor entry with a statement staircase situated in the middle of the double-storey void.”
The layout of the home was cleverly designed to allow for both private and public areas.
“The staircase separates the visitor receiving area from the intimate family zone,” Mr Calasara said.
The clients had two main design functions in mind for this home – to capture the ocean views from the upper level and to maximise entertaining in the main living zone.
Incorporating the Indian Ocean views was achieved by installing oversized and uninterrupted glazing on the second floor, creating a dream spot for a morning brew to kick-start the day, or an afternoon beverage to wind down.
The open-plan area keeps entertainment in mind and was designed to complement the outdoor spaces.
“The main living zone is connected directly to the outdoor entertaining area, which makes the house perfect for the whole family to enjoy all year-round,” Mr Calasara said.
Two sets of enormous bi-fold doors extend the central entertaining area to the retreat-style alfresco with a ceiling fan to blow the fresh ocean breeze around and a large built-in external fireplace to make the most of cold winter nights.
“The U-shaped plan allows the family to have a private hugging indoor and outdoor space, and a nicely landscaped garden with a raised swimming pool that creates a nice backdrop,” Mr Calasara said.
The modern kitchen is a chef’s dream. The section of the kitchen visible upon entry has a double oven and timber cupboards, combined with a massive white gloss breakfast bar.
The shape of the kitchen allows wraparound cupboards with ample storage and extensive bench space finished off with a patterned splashback.
A double sink down the side of the kitchen lets you clean up messes out of sight, leaving the front sink for drinking use.
The owners are able to enjoy this precious space to themselves or cook up a storm for their visitors, with more than enough capacity to do so.
“The master suite is located on the upper floor next to the upstairs sitting room, which takes advantage of the ocean views,” Mr Calasara said.
“The ensuite has a simple layout with a feature raised shower and bath combination – it is a great sanctuary to relax after a busy day.
“The ensuite is directly connected to a custom fitted-out walk-in wardrobe.”
