‘Not only do I know how to make the home look good, but I know the fundamentals of the construction of the home,’ says interior designer

A new interior design company, Coralee Monaghan Interiors, is now serving Orillia, Muskoka, and surrounding communities.

Coralee Monaghan recently earned a diploma in Residential Interior Decoration and a diploma in Architectural Technology. Before that, Monaghan had been working in the construction and engineering field for over 10 years, following in the footsteps of her father who worked in construction and studied architecture.

“I’ve finally decided to go out on my own and do what I love,” Monaghan said. “I do in-home consultations, and I have a wide array of services I offer.”

Monaghan, 36, says her passion for the business comes from seeing spaces come together.

“I love using colours and textures to make something beautiful,” she said. “It also has to be functional and work for the client.”

Monaghan’s goal is to eventually open a small studio in Orillia with a retail component. So far, Monaghan says the community has been supportive of her new business.

“Before I even launched my business I had a lot of interest from word of mouth,” she said. “I’ve had a couple of clients locally and so far, things have been going really great.”

Monaghan, expects business to really pick up once the community hears more about her and the business.

“I’m really passionate about interior decorating,” she said. “I would love to keep working with people to create a beautiful space for them and their family to enjoy.”

Monaghan says her construction experience and background in architectural technology are assets.

“Not only do I know how to make the home look good, but I know the fundamentals of the construction of the home,” she said. “Not everything is based on just the appearance, sometimes you have to go a little bit deeper when you are doing renovations and remodelling.”

Monaghan also offers her clients 3D renderings so they can see their space come to life before committing to a project.

While the Orangeville native could have started her business closer to the GTA, she said she loves being in a small-town environment.

“We have all the amenities that we need here,” Monaghan said. “I’ve lived all over Canada and the U.S., but I’ve decided Orillia is the place for me to put down roots, raise my daughter, and have my family here.”
