Welcome to Spring 2022: We’re going places, seeing people, actually doing things (how novel!). To meet the moment, designers delivered a lineup of spring looks that can keep up with our newfound energy — everything from midriff-baring skirt suits at Miu Miu, to silky athletic wear at Dior, to ’70s-inspired crochet tunics that transcend the handicraft’s retirement home reputation (looking at you, Chloé.) It’s time to get dressed again! To help you get started, read on for the top spring 2022 fashion trends to know.

Unserious suiting: You know the straight-laced set: tailored to a tee, a drab colour head to toe, fully fashioned for the 9-to-5. This season, we’re swapping cookie-cutter suits for something a little looser. Look for relaxed shapes, oversized lapels (or none at all) and a palette that promises to elevate your mood any day of the week.

Motel blazer, $110, pants, $90, simons.ca SHOP HERE

Your brain says “go for black” but trust us, buy the cerulean pantsuit. This one looks ace with a heavyweight tee and minimalist white sneakers.

Cos jacket, $315, pants, $190, cosstores.com SHOP HERE

Slouchy in all the right places, this blazer-and-trouser combo borrows its checked print from the ’70s, another trend that’s omnipresent this season.

Major midriff: Dress codes, be damned! With crop tops getting more cropped and waistlines slinging low, this season was all about showing some, or a lot of skin. Giambattista Valli showed midriff-revealing princess-y confections, while Acne delivered a genius corset-plus-long-sleeved-shrug ensemble, but it was Miu Miu’s baby tees paired with hip-hugging separates that left our mouths agape. Really, though, a sliver of midriff is all you need.

Sir The Label dress, $623, sirthelabel.com SHOP HERE

Consider this the modest intro to baring your belly: a cool cut-out cotton-silk midi dress with nary a belly button in sight.

Oak + Fort top, $88, oakandfort.com SHOP HERE

Sometimes a slice of midsection is all it takes: This turtleneck’s zip-up closure means you can wear a pair of high-waisted jeans to control the coverage.

Totally 2000s: Gaudy, clashing, anything goes — this was the style standard in the decade starting in the year 2000. Now, with Euphoria’s unrelenting influence and Gen Z’s fervour for millennium nostalgia, collections from Missoni, Blumarine and Collina Strada have resurrected old favourites: lettuce hems, boldly printed jeans and mesh everything.

Poster girl top, $250, Postergirl.com SHOP HERE

This one isn’t for the faint of heart, but if you’re looking to emulate Euphoria’s Maddy Perez and her early aughts style, you’ve landed on the right lettuce-edged top.

Libanati jeans, $350, newclassics.ca SHOP HERE

The season’s aforementioned crop tops are a perfect match for these one-of-a-kind, hand-painted jeans.

Like butter: We all worshipped at the altar of black, white and brown until this season’s decidedly more optimistic neutral came along. The buttermilk hue — a cousin of ecru, a distant relative of cream — came splashed on skirt suits, form-fitting dresses and frothy gossamers alike, proof that yellow should serve as an essential element in all our wardrobes.

Paris Georgia pants, $575, parisgeorgiastore.com SHOP HERE

Want a look that says undeniably-cool-but-definitely-didn’t-try-too-hard? Take these two-toned, cowboy-inspired pants, pair them with a ribbed tank and call it a day.

TNA sweater, $98, aritzia.com SHOP HERE

Everyone needs a half-zip sweater in their rotation. Resist the urge to go for heather grey (guilty!) and opt for this one instead: It just as easily goes with navy, light-wash denim and cool-toned creams.

Contemporary crochet: There’s your grandma’s crochet — e.g. the blanket that was perched on your basement couch in the pre-cellphone era — and then there’s this season’s innovative approach. The cool handicraft was woven into lengthy polos and tasselled vests and, in perhaps the chicest pick, it helped stitch together sunset-hued suede patches into a modern tunic at Chloé.

& Other Stories dress, $150, stories.com SHOP HERE

Nothing gets us going like discovering a completely fresh way of wearing clothes. Take this crochet midi dress, for instance: Sure, it’s a beachy cover-up on its own, but a total game-changer when worn over a dress shirt and leather trousers.

Zara top, $36, zara.com SHOP HERE

Afraid of veering too far into bedspread territory? Opt for this vest version, which marries pastels with neutral hues and a cropped cut for good measure.
