This interior design style will add the most value to your home

According to the real estate website Zillow, properties that embrace the organic modern style are likely to sell for more, with buyers searching for homes with natural materials and one-of-a-kind surfaces.

The latest interior design styles never fail to inspire us, and just as fashion changes and precious time moves forward, how we like to decorate our homes is ever-evolving.

The modern organic trend channels nature and embraces all things neutral and textured. According to Zwillow’s survey, buyers today are looking for properties with modern organic characteristics, so if your home features a neutral color palette, natural materials, and a simplistic, serene layout, you’re in luck.

The Zillow survey was conducted by looking at homes sold in 2024 and analyzing the keywords featured on their listings. Scanning over two million properties, the final conclusion was that homes with certain materials and finishes were more popular and leaned toward a more natural interior design style.

We delve deeper into the exact features and materials that proved popular with buyers and discuss how to bring them into the home.

Soapstone countertops were surprisingly popular and one of the most favorable attributes amongst buyers. Adding a surprising 3.5% (around $12,500 to a standard U.S. home’s sale price) more value to the property, soapstone and onyx were named key materials to look out for when buying a property. So, if you’re planning a bathroom or kitchen remodel, opt for newer materials rather than more traditional materials like quartz, as they channel the organic look and are a current hot commodity with buyers.

Interestingly, Venetian plaster walls add 3% to a property’s total value. There are a few ways to use plaster, but textured walls seem to be the most popular as buyers are seeking out this trendy, organic feature.

Although wet rooms were deemed dated for a while, they’ve made a comeback as homes featuring a shower-designated room increased by 3.3% in value. Whether opting for a fluid tiled design or a spa-like sanctuary, they’re a no-brainer if you’re a homeowner looking to renovate and sell up soon.

It’s not just interiors that buyers have their eyes on, they’re considering outdoor features too. Outdoor showers add a 2.8% increase to a home’s total sell price, and outdoor kitchens add a significant 2.2% more also.
