Trump shares new pictures of White House renovations

President Donald Trump shared new photos of White House renovations on Friday, along with potential marble updates for the “Trump-Kennedy Center” as well.

Why It Matters

Trump’s White House renovations in his second term have drawn national attention for their scale, cost, and potential impact on the historic residence. His redesigns—ranging from the Oval Office to the Rose Garden—along with the demolition of the East Wing to build a massive ballroom, have spurred debate over preservation, presidential authority, and the role of private funding in altering federally protected landmarks.

These changes come as lawsuits, partisan reactions, and ethical questions mount, highlighting broader tensions over presidential legacy and public versus private stewardship of national symbols.

What To Know

Taking to Truth Social, the president posted updated pictures of the Palm Room. The president also shared images of potential marble that could be used at the “Trump-Kennedy Center,” as well as saying, “Potential Marble armrests for the seating at The Trump Kennedy Center. Unlike anything ever done or seen before!”

Other renovations to the East Wing are also ongoing, including a new ballroom. Trump told reporters earlier this month that the cost had risen to $400 million after initial estimates put the cost at around $200 million.

The Trump administration maintains that all new construction and renovations are funded privately and impose zero cost on taxpayers.

A White House official told Newsweek on Friday that the renovations were done back in September and were then visible in Trump’s interview with Fox News’ Laura Ingraham. The photos posted by Trump on Friday show a more decorated room with additional pictures and photos seen on the wall.

What People Are Saying

Representative Jamie Raskin, a Maryland Democrat, wrote on X earlier this month: “The White House is not private property. It does not belong to Donald Trump. It belongs to the people. I’m introducing legislation to protect the building’s historic character against the president’s bulldozer and Marie Antoinette ballroom.”

Former George W. Bush adviser Scott Jennings wrote on X in October: “I think the new WH ballroom is another in a long line of improvements to a historic but ever changing building. Truman, FDR, TR, Jefferson, etc…Trump is another in a long line of Chief Executives to put his historic mark on the property. And not a dime of taxpayer money to do it.”

What Happens Next

The legal and public scrutiny over the White House renovations, particularly the ballroom, is likely to continue.
