WYFF NEWS FOUR TODAY. A 4TH OF JULY CELEBRATION TURNED DEADLY. A SOUTH CAROLINA CORONER REACTING AFTER A MAN PUT FIREWORKS ON HIS HEAD AND AN INMATE BACK IN CUSTODY AFTER SEVERAL DAYS ON THE RUN. NEW VIDEO SHOWING THE MOMENT HE WAS ARRESTED. GOOD MORNING. I’M PEYTON FURTADO. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR JOINING US HERE ON YOUR SATURDAY MORNING. WE’RE GOING TO TAKE A LOOK AT YOUR HOT, HOT WEATHER THAT YOU HAVE HAVE TO LOOK FORWARD TO TODAY. THIS IS OUR HILTON GREENVILLE SKYCAM GORGEOUS START TO OUR MORNING. YOU CAN SEE THE SUN KIND OF RISING IN THE TOP LEFT CORNER OVER THERE. 73 DEGREES RIGHT NOW. BUT SYDNEY SULLIVAN SAYS THAT’S NOT GOING TO LAST. SHE’S IN THE STUDIO WITH US. SYDNEY, HOW LONG CAN WE EXPECT 70 DEGREE TEMPERATURES HERE? I WILL SAY SOAK IN THE 70S WHILE WE HAVE IT, ALTHOUGH IT’S STILL A LITTLE BIT ON THE MUGGY SIDE THIS MORNING. THIS IS THE COOLEST IT’S GOING TO BE FOR QUITE SOME TIME. WE’VE GOT TEMPERATURES BACK ON THE RISE THIS AFTERNOON. NOT QUITE AS HOT AS YESTERDAY AFTERNOON, BUT IT’S STILL GOING TO BE HOT AND HUMID. SITTING AT 74 IN GREENVILLE, 75 IN ANDERSON, SPARTANBURG 72 AND ASHEVILLE 71 DEGREES. SO ALREADY A WARM START TO THE DAY AND MUGGY START. BUT THE GOOD NEWS IS THE SUN IS SHINING. WE’RE NOT SEEING ANY RAIN, AT LEAST FOR THE TIME BEING. SO IF YOU’RE TRYING TO GET OUT AND ABOUT THE FIRST PART OF THE DAY LOOKING GOOD TO GO A FEW CLOUDS ON AND OFF THROUGHOUT THE FIRST HALF OF THE DAY. BUT FOR THE MOST PART LOOKING NICE AND QUIET ONCE WE MOVE ON INTO THIS AFTERNOON AND INTO THE EVENING, THINGS WILL START TO SWITCH GEARS A LITTLE BIT. ARE GOING TO SEE THOSE TEMPERATURES BACK INTO THE LOWER 90S. NOT AGAIN. NOT QUITE AS HOT AS YESTERDAY, BUT STILL GOING TO BE FEELING LIKE THE TRIPLE DIGITS WHEN YOU FACTOR IN THE HUMIDITY. THAT IS GOING TO COME WITH SOME AFTERNOON AND EVENING SCATTERED SHOWERS AND STORMS. NOT A WASHOUT AND DOESN’T MEAN EVERYONE’S GOING TO SEE THIS MOISTURE. WE COULD USE THE RAIN THOUGH, SO IF YOU ARE ONE OF THE LUCKY ONES THAT DOES GET ONE OF THOSE AFTERNOON STORMS, REALLY SOAK THAT IN WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA. LOOKING A LITTLE BIT DRIER THAN THE REST OF THE AREA, BUT STILL CAN’T COMPLETELY RULE OUT A POP UP SHOWER OR STORM COMING UP. I’LL HAVE A CLOSER LOOK AT THE LATEST STORM TIMING, AND WHEN WE FINALLY SEE SOME RELIEF IN THOSE TEMPERATURES, PEYTON. THANK YOU SYDNEY. SPEAKING OF RELIEF, YOU’RE NOT GOING TO GET A LOT THIS AFTERNOON IF YOU’RE HEADED OUTSIDE, BE AWARE OF SOME OF THE HEAT ADVISORIES IN OUR AREA. WE HAVE HAVE ONE STARTING AT 11:00. THIS MORNING. HEAT ILLNESS INCLUDES MUSCLE CRAMPS AND HEAVY SWEATING. SO PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR BODY TODAY. THE NEXT STAGE IS HEAT EXHAUSTION, WHERE YOU MIGHT HAVE SOME CLAMMY SKIN AND NAUSEA. THE FINAL STAGE IS HEAT STROKE, WHICH IS WHEN YOUR SKIN DRIES OUT AND YOU CAN PASS OUT. JUST REMEMBER, PLEASE STAY HYDRATED TODAY. IF YOU HAVE ANY OF THESE SYMPTOMS, FIND A WAY TO COOL DOWN. GO INSIDE, GET MEDICAL HELP IF NECESSARY, AND AN UPSTATE FAMILY’S 4TH OF JULY ENDED IN FLAMES. THIS PAST WEEK AFTER THEIR HOME BURNED DOWN OVERNIGHT. THIS HAPPENED SHORTLY AFTER MIDNIGHT YESTERDAY IN WOODRUFF. OUR NATE STANLEY SPOKE TO THAT FAMILY AND THE NEIGHBOR WHO HELPED THEM TO SAFETY. I’M TOLD THE FAMILY WAS SLEEPING IN THE HOUSE BEHIND ME WHEN THAT FIRE STARTED. A NEIGHBOR WHO LIVES BEHIND THEM SAW THE FIRE AND RAN TO HELP. NOW THE FAMILY TELLS ME THEY’RE TRYING TO MAKE SENSE OF THIS HOLIDAY TRAGEDY. MY NINE YEAR OLD IS IN THIS WINDOW, AND THEN THE WINDOW ABOVE THE DOOR THAT YOU SEE IS OUR ONE YEAR OLD, A NIGHTMARE? 4TH OF JULY FOR JV AND ASHLEY WALZ AND THEIR FAMILY OF FIVE. ASHLEY SAYS HER FAMILY HAD GONE TO BED AFTER A NIGHT OF CELEBRATING, BUT THEY SOON WOKE UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT TO THEIR NEIGHBOR, TELLING THEM THAT THE CORNER OF THEIR HOUSE WAS ON FIRE. YOUR HOUSE IS ON FIRE. PLEASE OPEN THE DOOR. WE SEEN THE FLAMES GOING UPSIDE, SO I JUST DROPPED EVERYTHING AND I RAN AROUND THE CORNER BECAUSE I KNEW EXACTLY HOW IT WAS. I SAID, LET ME. I JUST DROPPED EVERYTHING I HAD IN MY HAND, AND I. I RAN UP AND I WAS KNOCKING ON THE DOOR, AND I WAS GLAD I WAS JUST UP. MAN. NO PROBLEM. ASHLEY. ASHLEY, GET THAT DOG OUT. LET THE DOG OUT. SO SHE LET THE DOG OUT. AND I RAN UPSTAIRS TO GO GET THE BABY AND THE BOYS. THEY WAS RUNNING DOWNSTAIRS. WE REACHED OUT TO THE WOODRUFF FIRE DEPARTMENT, WHO TELLS US THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE IS STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION. WALL SAYS SHE WAS TOLD THE FIRE’S CAUSE WAS LABELED AS ACCIDENTAL FIREWORKS. HER FRIDAY WAS SPENT ASSESSING DAMAGE, TALKING TO INSURANCE AND FIELDING CALLS FROM FRIENDS AND FAMILY. SHE SAYS THE COMMUNITY IS CONTINUING TO HELP MAKE HER, HER HUSBAND AND HER THREE KIDS FEEL COMFORTABLE AND PEOPLE JUST STOPPING BY, OFFERING YOU KNOW WHAT THEY CAN DO, WHAT THEY CAN HELP DROPPING OFF CLOTHES, DIAPERS, FOOD. BUT THEN THAT’S WHEN SOMETHING HAPPENS LIKE THIS AND YOU START MEETING LIKE, HEY, I LIVE DOWN THIS WAY. IT’S NICE TO KNOW IT REALLY IS. OH, COME ON, HOUSE, PLEASE COME OUT OF HOUSE. SHE’S COMING.
