AN interior designer has uncovered the top mistakes that people accidentally make every day when it comes to decorating their home.
Brie Turton said that the five errors can make your space look cheap, but she said the good news is that they are easily fixed.
Brie, who can be found via her TikTok @studiobrie, works as an interior designer and has lots of experience in righting decor wrongs.
So the American woman decided to post a video to her social media profile helping others avoid making the same errors.
She explained: “Here are the five things you might accidentally be doing that make your home look cheap coming from an interior designer.”
Brie then launched into the list – starting out with a popular shop to avoid when it comes to furniture.
Brie continued to her 73.6k followers: “Number one – swap IKEA for Facebook Marketplace.
“For the same budget you can get items that are way more premium and bring interest to your space.”
She also revealed she practices what she preaches, as she had bought a stylish lamp fixture from the social media site that had won her lots of compliments.
The interior pro then said that she also sees people falling for the second trap time and time again.
She went on: “Number two – mass produced art. Is it technically art? I guess.
“[But] is it giving expensive? Absolutely not!”
The third thing to bear in mind when decorating your home is the size of particular items within each space – and this is where Brie says rugs should be thought about.
Brie added: “A rug that’s too small – this makes the space feel really non-cohesive and makes you feel like the space wasn’t thought out.”
She continued to say that “number four is furniture sets” referring to matching sets that are commonplace in a lot of people’s homes.
Brie then followed up her statement with: “I will not be making further comment on this…”
She then moved on to the fifth and final thing to avoid at all costs.
Brie concluded: “I’m going to be real with you here, I was guilty of this when I was, like, 18… empty alcohol bottles.
“I have no idea when these became decor – let’s get rid of them!”
And her followers thanked her for her expert advice, as they shared their success stories from Facebook Marketplace.
