Interior Designer Shares 5 Trends to Watch in 2025 and the Internet Is Divided

Interior design goes through many fads and trends over the years, and 2025 is going to see some interesting ones. Kate Fuller, an interior designer out of Alabama, recently share the top 5 design trends she expects to see in 2025, and some of them might make you do a double take. The last one was unexpected!

Any guesses to what an interior designer might be loving and hoping to see more of this year? Watch on to hear what Kate has to say. The first one – decor featuring darker, earthy tones is one that’s been on our radar and we’re loving it too. Color drenching and layering also weren’t a surprise. But the last two that Kate mentions made me wonder why I hadn’t heard or seen these trends, but I bet I will soon!

Which of Kate’s predictions do you agree with? Is Western Cowboy the new Modern Farmhouse? Can the two live together? If antique furniture is making a comeback, we should all be heading to thrift and secondhand shops to find new (old!) treasures!

Viewers had mixed reactions to the new trends. @4mytai shared, “I’m an “old” interior designer and over the decades all of these trends have come and gone. Remember to do what makes YOU happy!” I’m with @BG who said, “My new trend is doing away with trends.” @Jackson summed it up best, “Love the affordable vintage look and timeless design. Regardless, make your house a home with soul and a reflection of your life’s journey.” I love this outlook!

I laughed with the commenter who pointed out, “I love the color drenching, I’m just thinking about when the trend is gone and we to paint ceilings white again = nightmare LOL!” and Kate’s reply was just as good, “LOL as I say!! That’s future me’s problem!”

Should You Change Your Style Based on Trends?

Google ‘2005 Design Trends’ and you’ll get many different – and often conflicting – answers. Vogue shared their 2025 interior design trends, and most were different than what Kate mentioned. They also shared what’s out, and that includes all white interiors, black kitchens, and funky light fixtures to name a few.

House Beautiful shared their 2005 decor predictions too, and some were the same as Kate’s predictions while others conflicted with hers and Vogue’s…though I’m loving that they predict ‘cottage-core’ gardens are coming back; who doesn’t love a gorgeous cottage garden?

Merriam Webster defines “trend” as a general movement or as a current style or preference. If you want to follow the pack and then have to redecorate your home again next year to keep up, go for it! I don’t have the budget for it and would prefer to make my home comfortable for me, not the masses. If you like to change up your home’s look often, do it with small decor, by repainting walls, and adding new textures and artwork. If you have timeless staple furniture, the little things can be swapped out pretty easily and if you’re a savvy shopper, inexpensively too!
