A Maine man is in custody after he was accused of making threats against the University of New England’s Biddeford campus and authorities found bomb-making materials in his home.Blake Tibbetts, 24, of Cornish, has been charged with terrorizing, criminal use of explosives and criminal attempt to cause a catastrophe by the Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office.The fire marshal’s office said on Monday morning, members of the Maine State Police and Biddeford Police Department investigated a report of concerning comments made by an individual at a Cornish restaurant. According to authorities, the comments referenced potential threats directed toward the UNE campus in Biddeford.State troopers identified the individual as Tibbetts, who was detained, evaluated at a local hospital and then transported to the York County Jail.Members of the fire marshal’s office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) responded to assist in the investigation at the request of state police. During the investigation, the agencies found bomb-making materials at Tibbetts’ home on Old Limington Road.Authorities said there is no ongoing threat to the UNE community at this time.Tibbetts is being held on $500,000 bail at the York County Jail. The Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office said it is the primary investigative agency in this case and is working in close coordination with the Maine State Police, FBI and York County District Attorney’s Office.
