Mr. Motivator launches new home maintenance-inspired yoga poses to de-stress homeowners this winter

A third of UK homeowners (34%) admit that home repairs cause them stress during the winter months, with many feeling overwhelmed by the cost and urgency of maintenance. As the temperatures drop, issues like broken boilers, frozen pipes, and blocked drains become more common, and tackling them can often feel like a daunting task.
That’s why HomeServe, the home assistance provider that’s been helping UK homes stay in shape since 1993, has teamed up with 90s fitness legend Mr. Motivator to create six home maintenance-inspired yoga poses. These stretches are designed to help homeowners de-stress while also offering simple, practical solutions for common winter issues.
The Stress of Winter Home Repairs
Research from HomeServe shows that the lack of hot water is the most stressful home repair issue, with 66% of UK adults admitting it causes them stress. Other common problems include boilers not functioning properly (65%) and frozen pipes (65%). But it’s not just the repairs themselves causing stress – 28% of UK adults say they’re too financially strained after Christmas to tackle home issues, and 17% of people admit they lose sleep worrying about home maintenance.
Mr. Motivator says: “When your home is acting up, it’s normal to feel stiff and stressed out—which can have a real physical impact on your wellbeing. That’s why, together with HomeServe, I want to give people easy ways to get moving and stretch out the stress while tackling practical tips to keep their home running smoothly.”
Six Yoga-Inspired Poses to Tackle Winter Issues
Mr. Motivator and HomeServe have developed six yoga-inspired poses, each paired with simple maintenance tips to make winter repairs feel more manageable and stress-free. Here are three of the poses and their tips:
- The U-Bend Stretch: A seated pose where you lean back, lift your legs into a ‘U’ shape, and balance—just like the shape of the pipe under the sink. This stretch clears tension in your core while reminding you to clear your drains.
Tip: Regularly clear sink traps to prevent smelly blockages and keep your water flowing freely. Pouring half a cup of baking powder and one cup of vinegar down your plughole, followed by some boiling water can help to flush everything through.
- Radiator Release: A balancing pose that mirrors the shape of a radiator key. Extend one leg back and lean forward with arms stretched, as if turning the valve on a radiator. It’s great for balance—and even better for heating efficiency.
Tip: Bleed radiators to release trapped air, improving warmth and helping to reduce energy costs.
- Thaw Your Core: A plank-inspired stretch where you hold a steady, grounded position—perfect for building strength and focus, while keeping pipes from freezing in your home.
Tip: Wrap exposed pipes with foam insulation to help prevent freezing and avoid costly bursts during cold snaps.
