After buying a holiday home in East Sussex just minutes away from the beach, Pearl Lowe and her husband Danny Goffey quickly got to work renovating the kitchen, resulting in a delightful space that’s both functional and desirable.

Pearl is known for her address book of vintage haunts and hideaway places, so we’re not surprised to see vintage rugs, decorative ornaments, and quirky objects tastefully brightening up every corner.

The bohemian-style kitchen is from deVOL’s Real Shaker Kitchen range and includes one long run of cupboards painted in ‘Linen’, a central ‘Scullery Yellow’ kitchen island with a stylish copper worktop for food prep, a fluted sink, and a magnificent light brown marble surface that makes the space feel bright and airy.

While designer Pearl and musician Danny painted the walls in Farrow & Ball’s Pointing, they left the wooden frame around the windows natural, adding a lace curtain for privacy. To complete the look, the couple opted for deVOL’s handmade Cotes Mill Tiles for their splashback and chose a characterful wall cupboard from the furniture manufacturer’s Haberdasher’s Kitchen range. The flooring was painted in Little Greene’s Linen Wash.

As an open plan space for entertaining family and friends, this kitchen has it all. And with a rustic and homely feel, it’s the ideal spot to relax, too.

‘We love the kitchen and its endless little vignettes that make photographing so appealing and satisfying. But it is designer Pearl’s ability to create a really functional family kitchen that is also seriously desirable and totally welcoming and comfortable that is most impressive,’ deVOL explains.

‘You instantly want to stay and hang out, you want to admire the space but you feel drawn to its homely and comforting vibe. This is a gift, acknowledging every aspect of a room’s function and not just making it look good. That is the true sign of a talent in our opinion and also a testament to Pearl’s love of family and friends and gathering them together in a warm and inviting and totally cool space.’

This isn’t the first time Pearl has entrusted deVOL to design her kitchen. The couple’s main home, a stone country house in Frome, Somerset, also had a stylish kitchen revamp back in 2017 with a navy island, marble countertops and glass-fronted cabinets.
