Trish Sheats Interior Design Kips Bay Decorator Show House 2024
Tiny details are what make the most memorable rooms stand out, and designer Trish Sheats‘ sitting room at the 2024 Kips Bay Decorator Show House Dallas is no exception. When the designer received an elegant back corner room overlooking the grand terrace, she began envisioning a stylish sanctuary for the woman of the house to entertain her closest friends. From there, she began a curation of unique accessories from B.Viz, Wolf Hall Antiques, and fashion-forward design elements such the Gracie wallpaper and custom window treatments by The Shade Store in a watercolor-like fabric from Kravet’s new collaboration with Altuzarra.
“I wanted to blend together traditional with a little contemporary to make it feel like a perfect match and just have a lot of fun with this space,” Sheats says. “I just pictured a lounge for my friends to play games and hang out with each other.”
Titled “Salon du Champagne,” this space has a clever seating plan that’s ripe for conversation (think: back-to-back sofas) with a card table and chairs for playing backgammon, a round of mahjong, or for enjoying a glass of bubbly from the in-room bar. A whimsical fireplace embellished by Casci Ornamental Plaster and a beautiful antique rug from Arsin Rug Gallery ensure the space always feels convivial and cozy.
“I’m staying true to myself with this design and showing what I love to do, which is going all in on the details,” Sheats says. “We have little bits of white in here to make it feel glamorous, and then I always have to have antiques and something black in every space.”
While show houses are created on an accelerated timeline—conception to completion in just 10 weeks in this case—Sheats didn’t let that inhibit her bespoke visions for the space, from commissioning works by local artist John Holt Smith to adding Samuel & Sons trim to just about anything she could. The result is an unforgettable, unabashedly feminine space that always calls for celebration.
