Loan program aims to help Hamilton County residents repair their homes

HAMILTON COUNTY, Ohio (WXIX) – Hamilton County residents have an opportunity to apply for low-interest home repair loans for funds that can be used on things like plumbing, roofing and overall general maintenance.

County officials believe The Revive + Thrive Home Repair Loan Program is a win-win for those who may need some financial help to improve their homes.

Jeff Weckbach, Colerain Township Administrator, is urging his citizens to get a head start in applying for the program.

“I think it’s going to be first come, first served. So, if residents of Colerain get into the hopper first, they’ve got a better shot at getting the funding before it goes elsewhere,” Weckbach said.

Weckbach said he hopes the loans will help homeowners who have been putting off big investments due to the financial burden come with the repairs.

“If they have roof issues or heating and cooling issues or whatever that might be, this is a great way for them to be able to make that sometimes large capital investment but at a low rate,” he said.

“Depending on the homeowner’s ability to repay, Loan amounts range from $5,000 to $25,000 with a low interest rate of 2%,” Wechbach explained. “The typical loan length is 10 years with payments beginning 75 days after the closing date.”

Officials state that a qualifying household’s income must be below $62,650 for a single and $80,550 for a family of three, and the home must be the primary residence of the applicant.

The minimum credit score required to qualify for this loan is 560, which is between the “poor” and “fair” ratings. Weckbach said this is a perfect loan program for those on disability and seniors on a fixed income.

Local Initiatives Support Corporation, or LISC, is the nation’s leading community development organization.

The Greater Cincinnati chapter said the easiest way to apply is to call the United Way at 211.

“The goal is to make sure those homeowners have a way to improve their home, stay in their home and continue to invest to make your community a better place to live,” Weckbach added.

The home repair loans are only available to Hamilton County residents who live outside Cincinnati city limits.

If you live in the city and need help, The Revive + Thrive Home Repair Loan Program is expected to open for City of Cincinnati residents.
